Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, especially if you've been carrying difficult experiences on your own for a long time. Dr. Marcia Amponsah, PsyD believes that healing begins with feeling genuinely heard. She strives to create a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space where clients can explore their experiences openly, gain new insight, and build on the strengths they already possess.
Dr. Amponsah earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Ohio before completing her Master of Arts in Counseling at Concordia University Irvine and her Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in Applied Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School. She is also certified in Brainspotting through the Pacific Trauma and Counseling Center.
With six years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Amponsah has worked with individuals experiencing trauma, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, grief, borderline personality disorder, and codependency. She incorporates evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), Psychodynamic therapy, and Brainspotting, while tailoring treatment to each client's unique needs and goals.
Dr. Amponsah believes that people often already possess the capacity to heal, but difficult experiences can make it challenging to access that inner resilience. Rather than providing all the answers, she sees therapy as a collaborative process that helps clients discover new perspectives, develop healthier patterns, and reconnect with their own strengths. She believes that trust, collaboration, and clear communication create the foundation for meaningful therapeutic work.
As a proud New Yorker, Dr. Amponsah values honesty, authenticity, and compassion. Her own healing journey has shaped her belief that growth takes time, courage, and self-kindness. As a Postdoctoral Psychological Associate practicing under the supervision of Dr. Katie Moore, PsyD, she is committed to providing evidence-based care while continuing to deepen her clinical expertise.
The parts of her work that bring Dr. Amponsah the greatest fulfilment are seeing clients discover strengths they never realized they had, watching them face challenges with courage, and helping them move toward lives that feel more meaningful and fulfilling. Whether you are working through the effects of trauma, navigating grief, managing anxiety or depression, or seeking personal growth, Dr. Amponsah looks forward to supporting you on your journey.
