Kellie Modugno, AMFT, APCC, provides affirming therapy for clients experiencing anxiety, grief and loss, childhood trauma, religious trauma, adoption-related concerns, relationship difficulties, burnout, and challenges related to identity and self-acceptance. She also has experience supporting clients navigating gender dysphoria, family rejection, social anxiety, eating concerns, dissociation, polyamorous relationships, and the effects of racism and marginalization.
As an adoptee and a member of the LGBTQIA+ and addiction recovery communities, Kellie understands that our identities and experiences can shape how we move through the world. She recognizes that emotional distress does not happen in isolation and that relationships, family systems, trauma, discrimination, and larger social systems can all affect mental health.
Kellie’s approach to therapy is warm, curious, collaborative, and nonjudgmental. She believes clients are the experts on their own lives and works to understand behaviors and coping strategies within the context in which they developed. Sometimes patterns that helped us survive earlier experiences no longer serve us in the same way. Kellie helps clients develop greater understanding and compassion for themselves while exploring what they may want to keep, change, or unlearn.
Her work is primarily grounded in person-centered and humanistic therapy. Depending on each client’s needs, she also incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, somatic approaches, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work, inner child work, and solution-focused therapy.
Kellie earned her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Vanguard University and her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from California State University, Fullerton. She provides LGBTQIA+ affirming and trauma-informed therapy at Affirming Psychological Services in Irvine, California.
Kellie is supervised by Sara Hoadley, LMFT (#116971).
